ECONOMIC HARDSHIP STARES A WAVE OF CHILD LABOUR ACROSS EASTERN UGANDA

Updated: Jul 18, 2020

The impact of the covid-19 lock down has severely stunk our communities. Children as young as the age of 6 are swiftly turning to become meal ticket for most grappling families.

At 8years Catherine is sent by her mother to sell vegetables to make ends meet for the family.

Evidently as you walk across the suburbs of most towns in Eastern Uganda (Mbale, sironko,Tororo, Busia, Butaleja, Budaka etc), every minute that passes presents a new click of juveniles humped with Batches of either tomatoes, onions, egg plants, cabbage, fresh beans tied in white polythene pills or with wide aluminum trays or dishes filled with greens or bunches of Matooke on their heads moving door to door selling.
